Commissioner Caryn Abbott Questions City Leadership
Shortly after the shooting was reported, Worcester County Commissioner Caryn Abbott, who represents District 1, publicly commented on an Eastern Shore Undercover post asking:
“Where is the Mayor and City Manager???”
Abbott’s comment appears to have been later deleted, but her remarks circulated and triggered discussion about leadership visibility and crime response.
Mayor Nock Responds With List of City Initiatives
Later on, Mayor Todd Nock issued a detailed public statement addressing both the incident and the criticism.
“I’m right here,” Nock wrote, saying he works daily with staff and police on public safety. He listed several steps the city has implemented:
- Expansion of the camera system from 5 views to more than 30
- Installation of 4 LPR cameras
- Deployment of 33 ShotSpotter sensors
- Assignment of a full-time detective to CBI
- Public safety meetings and attempts to form neighborhood watch groups
Nock said city-led initiatives will only succeed with broader community involvement and noted limited attendance at past meetings.
Public Reaction Across Social Media
Comments reflected a mix of fear, frustration, and calls for accountability.
Frequent themes included:
- Concern about repeated gunfire incidents
- Calls for more police presence
- Appeals for parents and families to play a stronger role in preventing violence
Community Commentary
The responses across platforms highlight a community stressed by recurring violence but divided over how best to address it. While some residents focus on government action, others say long-term progress depends on family involvement, neighborhood engagement, and cooperation between city and county officials.
As the police investigation continues, Pocomoke City faces the broader challenge of bridging these perspectives to find a path forward.
