The Mayor and City Council of Pocomoke City will hold a regular public meeting on Monday, January 20, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 101 Clarke Street, in Pocomoke City.
According to the published agenda, the meeting will begin with approval of minutes from the January 5 meeting, including a reading of the closed session summary, followed by approval of the bill list. Council is also scheduled to swear in several officials and boards, including the city’s Finance Director, the Planning & Zoning Commission, and the Pocomoke Election Board.
Several action items are slated for discussion and vote, including:
- A special one-day permit for the Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Company Cash Bash scheduled for March 28, 2026.
- Renewal of GMB on-call engineering and Planning & Zoning support services.
- Forgiveness of the Discovery Museum promissory note.
Two ordinances are scheduled for second reading, public hearing, and vote:
- Ordinance 2026-O-3, which would eliminate the keeping of lodgers, roomers, or boarders by a resident family in residential zoning districts.
- Ordinance 2026-O-7, authorizing a general obligation bond for the water tank mixers project.
The agenda places public comment ahead of comments from council members, the mayor, and the city manager, allowing city leadership to respond to public input during the same meeting.
The meeting is also scheduled to adjourn into a closed session under General Provisions Article § 3-305(b)(8) to consult with staff, consultants, or other individuals about pending or potential litigation. The continued inclusion of a closed session at the end of recent agendas appears to reflect an ongoing practice by city leadership, a practice that the Arrowhead is in the process of challenging with Maryland’s Open Meetings Compliance Board.
As noted on the agenda, items may be taken out of sequence, and the agenda is subject to change, including the addition or removal of closed session items. Residents are encouraged to attend if they wish to observe or participate in the public comment portion of the meeting.
