Friends and family will gather on Saturday, February 7th at twelve noon for an informal run, walk, or jog beginning at the memorial bench at the Pocomoke High School tennis courts, which was dedicated in Dr. Kenneth Ryan Nugent’s memory last year.
The route will proceed at a relaxed, self-paced journey through town toward Dockside Restaurant, where friends and family will gather. No registration is required, and participants are welcome to run, walk, or jog as they choose.
The starting location holds special significance. The blue bench near the tennis courts was dedicated in Dr. Nugent’s honor following his death in July 2024 and sits adjacent to the courts where he once competed as a standout student-athlete at Pocomoke High School. The bench serves as a lasting memorial to his connection to the school, his achievements, and the impact he had on those around him.
Dr. Nugent moved to Pocomoke as a child and graduated from Pocomoke High School before going on to pursue higher education and a career in medicine. He later became an emergency medicine physician and medical director in San Antonio, Texas. He was 36 years old at the time of his death.
While the February 7th gathering is not a fundraiser, friends and family hope to raise awareness of the Kenneth R. Nugent, MD ’15 Memorial Scholarship, established at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. The scholarship supports students from Maryland’s Eastern Shore who are pursuing medical careers with a focus on service to the region.
Donations may be made through the University of Maryland Medical Alumni Association at:

When donating online, contributors are asked to specify in the comments that the donation is specifically for the Kenneth R. Nugent, MD ’15 Memorial Scholarship.
The run/walk is intended as a simple, informal way to remember Dr. Nugent, beginning at a place already set aside in his honor.
