February and early March bring a wide range of community programming to Pocomoke City, with events focused on Black History Month, youth education, family activities, and Valentine’s Day celebrations. From museum tours and cultural performances to library storytimes, hands-on learning programs, and seasonal events, residents of all ages have multiple opportunities to engage with local history, creativity, and community spaces throughout the coming weeks.
🎓 Black History Month & Cultural Events
Black History Month is being recognized throughout February with educational programming, museum tours, and community-centered events.
The Sturgis One Room School Museum is offering free tours on multiple dates during February, with both daytime and evening hours. The museum will also serve as a historical stop for the Somerset County NAACP Black History Bus Tour on February 28.
A major highlight of the month is the Black History Month Open Mic Night on Thursday, February 20 at 6 p.m., held at the Worcester County Library’s Pocomoke Branch. The event is hosted by Councilwoman Sharnell Tull, also known as Sista Big. The open mic will feature poetry, music, and art celebrating Black excellence and community voices.
📚 Children’s Learning, Storytime & Youth Programs
The Worcester County Library – Pocomoke Branch continues to host a wide range of programs for children, teens, and adults.
Preschool-aged children can enjoy themed storytimes including Story Time at the Delmarva Discovery Museum on February 10, Story Time: Space on February 24, and Storytime: Alphabet on March 3, all featuring stories, songs, and crafts designed for children from birth through age five.
Elementary-aged children are invited to participate in hands-on learning through Colonial Games on February 17, which explores toys and games from the 1700s, and a STEM-focused program on February 25 highlighting the achievements of Guion “Guy” Bluford Jr. and Mae Jemison, followed by a hovercraft-building activity.
❤️ Valentine’s Day & Family Activities
Valentine’s-themed programming is also scheduled throughout mid-February.
Families can stop by the Pocomoke Branch Library on Wednesday, February 11 for Valentine’s Day Card Making, a drop-in craft activity offered throughout the day.
Additional Valentine’s events include a Valentine’s Day Cash Bingo Night on Friday, February 13, followed by the “For the Love of Sweets” Vendor Event on Saturday, February 14, both hosted by the Great Pocomoke Fair and offering opportunities for seasonal entertainment and shopping.
