Sysco Corporation has announced that its Cash & Carry Store in Somerset County will close its doors on or around September 5, 2025, ending a half-century of service to the local community.
In a letter sent to Somerset County Economic Development Director Daniel Thompson, Sysco said the decision came after “careful examination of the retail landscape in Eastern Maryland” and consideration of the “various retail options available to the community.”
The company acknowledged the difficulty of the closure, noting that the Cash & Carry had “been a community mainstay for 50 years.” Sysco stated that customers will ultimately benefit from the company’s shift in focus toward providing core services to small and large businesses, as well as public institutions.
While the Cash & Carry Store will close, Sysco emphasized that its Eastern Maryland facility in Pocomoke City remains fully operational. The company pledged to continue providing “a diverse assortment of quality products at good value” and said it looks forward to “many more years of partnership” with the community.
Customers or community members with questions about the closure have been directed to contact Jeffery Akeroyd at Jeffery.Akeroyd@Sysco.com.
